Once you’ve found your rental truck for moving, you can choose to make your move either a royal disorganized mess or a professionally efficient operation by how you pack your stuff. Elementary yes, but essential if you want to avoid wasted time and endless frustration at the other end.
Simply put, organization is everything. Period. If you think you’re saving time by just throwing your stuff into unmarked boxes you will rue the day when it’s time to unpack. I won’t even try to describe what a mess and what stress will ensue.
Suffice it to say that there’s a real art to moving if you want to get it over with as quickly as possible, get settled as soon as possible, and keep your sanity.
And it’s all so simple to just follow some basic logic.
1. Label your boxes according to a) which room the contents belong in and b) a little summary of the contents. Then when you unpack you’ll find everything in the right room and won’t have to searching for it somewhere else in the house.
2. Mark fragile items fragile. And if they must be packed along with other items in the same box, keep the fragile items on top so they won’t be weighed down.
3. Load the rental truck so that the first items to come out at the destination are boxes containing food and toys for your pets and boxes containing all of your children’s belongings.
That way you can get the pets calmed down and the children occupied with their own unpacking right away upon arrival, making it easier for you to deal with the rest of the unloading and unpacking task.
A few more notes about labeling.
Use a heavy-duty black marking pen on every box you want loaded into the truck first. In other words, every box that is least important and that will be unloaded last.
Use a red heavy-duty marker for the last boxes to be loaded — i.e. the first boxes to be unloaded from the truck. As mentioned, these would include pet foods and toys, the children’s belongings, and then whatever else you want access to first.
By following this simple logic, the contents of your rental truck for moving will be so well organized that the job of getting settled will go as efficiently and as stress-free as you can make it.
